Evil Interstellar Empire Product Management Trial Mini-Mission
A breakfast conversation #
One morning April, a junior product manager, sits next to you in the canteen.
Hey, do you have a minute to chat? I’m having some trouble getting pilots to adopt a new dashboard design I’ve been working on, and I’m hoping you might be able to help.
I’ve gotten some great feedback on the mockup from a few pilots, but when it came time to roll out the prototype, not many of them were interested in upgrading. I’m not sure what I’m missing here. Do you have any ideas or advice on how I can get the pilots to see the value in the new dashboard?
Understood. I think I’ve heard enough.
Trial mini-mission answers #
The key aspect that can be improved in April’s approach is how she gets input from the potential users. April asked leading question (note I’ve explained the idea, asked if they liked my idea).
What April is supposed to do in the interviews is to get facts from the lives of the pilots, understand what information they are looking for during the flight (and also before and after), and how they use this information. Only then a dashboard improvement can be designed.
Interviews are not the only way to get the required information. Valid examples of other techniques are direct observation or telemetry.

What do I do next?
🎉 Congratulations on completing a trial mission! Here are a few things that you can do next:
- Complete another one. We have two trial missions - a short mini-mission and a bit longer maxi-mission. You can access both from the menu at the top of the page.
- Learn how the future missions will work (the full experience is going to be a bit more interactive, click to learn how exactly 😉)
- Give us feedback in the form below. We love hearing from you 🥰 - both words of appreciation and constructive criticism. Hearing from you is what keeps us going.
- Join the waiting list. We'll notify you when we launch more content!
